McKercher LLP, a full service law firm with over 60 lawyers is seeking a Legal Assistant in the area of family law.
You will be assisting lawyers and clients as they work through a family law legal proceeding, including providing assistance with document preparation and administrative functions. This position involves working under tight time schedules and on numerous files at any given time.
The ideal candidate must possess excellent technical and administrative skills; have the ability to prioritize and expedite workflow; possess the ability to handle changing priorities; and be extremely organized. The incumbent will be articulate and will have impeccable writing skills. Experience working in the area of family law is an asset.
Your required skills and knowledge include:
- Handling and prioritizing workload independently; calendaring deadlines; drafting required pleadings; assisting with trial preparation; preparing monthly invoices; finalizing legal documents using Microsoft Word; fielding telephone inquiries; and acting as a liaison between the client and lawyer
- Flexibility to work with changing priorities
- Processing large volumes of documents
- Meeting strict deadlines
- Problem solving with minimal supervision
- Communicating in a professional manner
- Other duties as assigned
To be successful in this role, you have:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a legal environment (Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the area of family law)
- A solid understanding of current legal terminology
- Fast, accurate keyboarding skills
- Strong dicta transcription skills and the ability to transcribe for various lawyers
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent proofreading skills
- The ability to work independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision, and take initiative
- The willingness to learn and contribute to the team
